This series explores firebugs from both an evolutionary and cellular perspective. It highlights their origins from marine ancestors and their ongoing microlevel transformations through cellular renewal. This dual perspective reveals firebugs as entities in constant evolution, shaped by historical lineage and continuous biological change, on a macro and micro scale.
Contemporary biology has shifted from viewing organisms as isolated entities to understanding them as dynamic networks of metabolic, developmental and symbiotic processes. This shift necessitates new ways of visualizing life. Firebugs develop, flourish and evolve through interactions with their environment and microbial communities. Their identity is not fixed but emerges from these relationships. Art, by focusing on movement, interaction and transformation, provides a complementary approach to biological study, making visible the complexity and fluidity of life.
