The theme of the Broken Face is a recurring image in my work. I am terrified and fascinated at the same time by the brutality of these images. The pain that these people must go through is hard to imagine for me. Working with these pictures, I try to empathize with the situation of people, that have been severely wounded. At the same time they are a way of showing my own wounds. Like this I can let go of these wounds and I can let more empathy, understanding and acceptance in my life. Also, I want to valorize faces that in society we consider as ugly and monstrous. I try to accept the ugliness and the suffering in them, go past it and the beauty.
